God Bless America

Daniel 9.16 “O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us.

Flaccid flag hanging half mast for a super star
Out of control on a highway to hell who went just a little too far
A living example of American idolatry and of what the world says we should be
Stars spangled in a tangled web of pornography and misery
But we continue to watch, glued to our television screen

Tattered and scattered and torn apart by our cold, lost and hardened hearts
We’ve tarnished our Father’s legacy in greed for more power and money
Mass media hysteria blinding and hiding what what we no longer want to see
And the serpent cries out “Don’t tread on me!”, and demands undue respect
When we move to crush him underfoot it’s not ‘politically correct’

Ridiculous religion’s superstitions clouding our decisions
Blood red staining His pure white and beaten black and blue
He knew what we had to do hanging on a tree for you and me
It would set us free but we’ve lost our liberty in entitlement mentality
Undeserved want and need we continue to feed on each other’s grief

The eagle has landed in refuse and shame and we’ve sullied His name
But it is far from too late, don’t hesitate to turn back to our Father’s fore
And in the Lion’s mighty roar with gentleness of Lamb we even the score
We have simply gone astray and lost our way, so on our knees pressed in “Please!” we pray
“God bless the USA.”
